Magnolia Birthday

It was May..........

beautiful, mysterious roads to the plantation

Black lions, stone posts, and a heavy fancy gate stand guard at the entrance

When I go through this gate, I feel like I've entered another world. Echoes from the past are loud in here....

I am happy to pose for a picture on the red bridge. My pretty new umbrella was one of my birthday presents

Tansy takes a break by the big long white bridge

Gliding through the cold water

I made this picture back in 2018--it was a juvenile gator

so many secret nooks, crannies, and rooms on this huge old plantation. Every time you round a bend.....something new beckons and new surprises await discovery...

who is she?

Growing wild in the woods!

yes, they smelled delicious!

When Mr. Front Porch asked where I want to go for my birthday, (which is also our anniversary) this is always my top choice. This old place is not "manicured" much. It's like the gardens have just sprung up in the swamps. It's wild and beautiful

Once upon a time.............a young lady named Julia lived on this plantation

these steps led to nowhere. Maybe a caretaker's cottage long ago?? It was out in the woods...

Roses clinging to the window

It was a very HOT DAY. Walking in the breezes down by the river offered some relief.

the ponds have alligators and so does this river--we've seen quite a few in there

BEADS today. A strand of bright green beads from way back around 2003 or so, a "moonstone" pendant, and another fringe pendant with tiny red stones

some of the first touring visitors to Magnolia

Ahinga

white lilies dancing in the hot wind

Cypress knees

See???  ha ha LOL---this is to protect my legs from the "skeeters" ("flying  JAWS")

the gift shop was closed. It it had been open, this beautiful peacock window glass might've come home with us! It sure is beautiful
Here comes Archie!!
closer and closer...........
he came over to tell me 'happy birthday'. LOL!
You can hear his loud calls all over the plantation....he is THE BEST GUARD DOG! LOL (ps--don't tell him he isn't a dog...he does not realize he is a bird)

magnificent tail!!!!

Huge live oaks stand guard all over the property

.....and shawls of Spanish moss drop from the trees.

made this picture in May 2018

If you want to know more of the  history of Magnolia, you can go to my sidebar on the far right, go way down to "Previous Adventures" and go to July 28, 2018. Also July 25, July 26, and July 29.
There you can see the plantation kitties, Albert the peacock, (archie's daddy) pictures from the Conservatory (it's so pretty in there!) which is closed right now because of the virus, the gift shop, also closed right now, and a wedding at the plantation.
You can also see pictures of Julia and find out who she was and how she inherited this whole plantation.
Hope you enjoyed our hike around Magnolia today. It's one of my favorite places anywhere! It is peaceful, quiet, and beautiful and there is so much history here to learn, both good and bad.
If we listen to the past, maybe we can make the future better.

  5. Happy Birthday sweet lady and how wonderful to see this plantation with you. So many beautiful flowers and many I have never seen before.
Also never had seen Cypress knees. The picture of the peacock on the porch is just amazing!! Love that new umbrella with the red in it and it is huge! What a fascinating place to visit. Hey, I saw a picture on your side bar and wondered who it was and it was you with dark hair! You looked beautiful with it dark and much younger I think. Maybe you were younger then:)
