Saturday it poured hard and heavy several times, which prevented us from doing much outside.
So we kept busy with inside projects. I am still so busy organizing so many things and we painted a hallway too. Little granddaughter even got to paint a small wall by herself! LOL We also got our house shopping done and I got a haircut.
Sunday came, and the sun came out! So we decided to go for a drive to the beach. You are invited to come along with us, it's easy today--not walking in the heat, LOL! We'll just have a nice air conditioned drive and we can even sip on our lemonades as we go. Here's the marsh coming up:
The spartina grass is very wet and green this time of year with all the rain.
Our marshes and tidal creeks are teeming with life: busy fiddler crabs, egret, shrimp, large wading birds like the great blue herons, turtles, tadpoles and frogs, red winged blackbirds, many species of fish including mullet and flounder, cotton rats, and often, hawks swooping around looking for a delicious meal. Raccoons dig up mussels and blue crabs eat snails. We even have minks and otters! (I love to watch otters jump, swim, and play!)
The most exciting animals you can see in the marshes and tidal creeks are the DOLPHINS who come searching for prey in the shallow waters. When they come upon muddy creek banks, it's called "mudding". What a sight to see!
I love driving this pretty street next to the ocean! Love the way the trees make a canopy over us!
Isn't this the cutest cottage?! Love the pretty colors they painted it. Love the pink flamingos too. Guess what?--we have pink flamingos in our yard too! LOL I love them. (I love tacky things! LOL) |
A pretty rocking chair on a beach house porch. Looks like a great place for a glass of sweet tea and a few decorating magazines! |
Oh, there go the surfers! I'm certain these kids LIVE FOR THIS! ha ha LOL. You can tell they love it. I would be terrified out there! LOL |
"Let's Go!!" |
Oh, I just love this little beach house! Love that gingerbread-y looking screen door. It looks so much like my Ma-Maw's old house. Except she didn't have a screened in porch. I spent my childhood growing up in her old porch swing, that is for sure. The memories I will have forever.
Looks like someone has a little gardening going on out in the front yard here. |
Tangles of vines creeping right up that palm tree! |
and here we have King Triton! (the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite, if you remember any Mythology, ha ha, LOL) |
He lounges in the front yard of a beach house |
Fierce expression!! |
Spotted this pretty little garden! Isn't it cute?
Happy blossoms! |
They say the John's Island tomatoes are so delicious because of the high summer humidity and hot temperatures, as well as the sandy soil. They also get small doses of real seawater instead of all treated and chlorinated water. Whatever it is, the farms over there are known for their delicious tomatoes.
Afterwards I went out and weeded and dead-headed some of our pots and hanging baskets, and planted a bunch of zinnia seeds.
I've never planted those before, so hoping to see them sprout and grow.
Hope everyone is having a great week and I'm always so glad when y'all stop by and leave me sweet comments!
What a neat little beach town!! Thanks for sharing ~ FlowerLady
ReplyDeleteDebbi, You always show us some unusual things, I love the pictures . No shortage of interesting things going on there. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeletei enjoy a good rain storm...staying inside and working on inside projects. i find, after a day of rain, a lot more people are out and about. your tomatoes look awesome, almost as good as mine...hehehehe.
ReplyDeletei'm glad you are having fun, us too...we have been so busy!!
Nice change of pace going for a ride today and with the heat and humidity this would happen a lot for me. Never thought a lot about a marsh as I have not been close to one but that is a lot of different animals! What a cool statue. Hope you get lots of blooms from your seeds.
ReplyDeleteI just love hanging out with you!!! We would be best friends if we just lived a little bit closer to each other!!
