A Secret Garden

This is a churchyard we love to walk around in. 

I am always in awe of the workmanship and attention to detail in these old buildings, homes, and churches. They truly  don't "build 'em like that anymore".

the church was built in 1787 and is the oldest Unitarian church in the South. I loved photographing the Gothic Revival style.

Gnarly old trees:

Peaceful paths lead past ancient crumbling stones......

and overgrown gardens show off vibrant blooms.

Lacey Spanish moss is so delicate and sways lightly in the spring breezes.

Trees canopy the paths and cause flickering shadows.

Underneath palm trees and magnolias, here is a quiet and peaceful place to sit awhile or enjoy a sack lunch.

Another Charleston churchyard...a very interesting and relaxing way to while away a spring afternoon...in a "secret garden".

Little White Squirrel

unique and unusual squirrel.

I'm here today with some photos I tried
to get of a pure white squirrel we kept
running into on our walks in this
wooded area in a neighboring county.

Are these common or rare? It was sure
the only one I had ever seen.

Kinda looks like a white feather sticking up out of the ground, doesn't it? LOL Honest, that's his tail.

This one was my favorite!  I have no idea why. Was it her fiery hair? Her sweet face? Her pretty singing voice? I think her name was Sandy?

They were some of the ladies who sang regularly on the Lawrence Welk weekly show in the 1960s and 1970s.

....Why dont singers perform in gowns like this anymore? Today they strut around on stage in little more than bodysuits/swimsuits.........

and there was THIS COUPLE. Does anyone remember their names? I so want to say "Bobby and Cissy". ???

They sure were "cutting a rug". LOL Doubt if the kids today know what that means! LOL

I spent many hours watching the show when I was a kid. I remember "Guy and Ralna" the singing married couple.

 And a platinum blonde lady who played the piano, I want to say JoAnne Castle maybe? Do you remember any of the entertainers or their names? Did you watch this show and did you have favorites?
I loved the Lennon Sisters!
I also remember watching Lynn Andersen sing "I Never promised you a Rose Garden" on the show.
Of course if any of us DID WATCH this show, we would never ever ever ADMIT it.....this type show just wasn't "cool or groovy".....it was stuff "our parents" watched. I watched a whole hour or so of the show last week, hostessed by Ralna, and I enjoyed it alot. Gasp! Have I grown OLD? LOL

The last word followed almost immediately by a cheerful "Good night!" The part that almost everyone has lodged forever in their brain is the last section that begins with 'good night.'

Catchy little tune...funny how i remembered every word and sang right along....funny what our minds can remember isn't it?

"May Day! May Day!"

and a happy May Day it was.

There was a quiet "knock knock knock" at the front door, or so I thought.
I went and looked...and didn't see anyone.

I went back to frying bacon, as we were having 'breakfast for supper' night and not only was I frying bacon, but trying a new recipe for stuffed french toast.
"knock knock knock" it went again. The dogs were friendly barking, and wagging.
Then I saw her....a tiny little granddaughter, hiding in the bushes and clutching bright posies. 
So I played along....and even started "knock knock knocking" back. 

then I slowly opened up the door, and tiny hands delicately pushed the bouquet in through the open door.

And then they ran ran ran....as fast as they could, giggling all the way. 
Because THAT is what May Day is. 
So...did you 'may day' anyone or did anyone get you?

The Confederate jasmine is in rampant bloom and the scent is intoxicating!

I know this picture is blurry, but I wanted to show y'all these bright and pretty flowers....and I LOVE these people's patterned sidewalk! I am still practicing and learning to use my new camera!

These people have such pretty flowers every year.

Do you see the lone plant that has sprung to life way up there by that window?

Enjoyed seeing this church.
Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. It was built in 1854.

It was burned down, then re-built. The workmanship is so amazing to me. I love the old tool chiseled brownstone. I got lucky with the lighting.

I love this sea mist green townhouse! Alot of the old homes on this street belonged to sea captains.

By the time the sun was setting, we were all getting tired and ready to head back to "the Front Porch"!
