We enjoyed a drive to Charleston last week
the fields of corn are growing rapidly! Those who planted early have already harvested.
Blue skies so pretty and that's Mt. Pleasant over to the right there and the sparkling blue Atlantic in the distance
The old St. Julian Devine chimneys on Charleston's East side. They are about 135 feet tall, considered unstable, and were scheduled for demolition, but so far they are historic and are still standing. Quite a few homes and apartments in the area were at risk if the towers tumbled. I think city officials and the Historic Foundation are trying to save and preserve them. Not sure, but I think they were built in the 1930s and were originally trash incinerators.
Every summer I like to see the big green plants on that upstairs piazza! They get tall! |
(book below)
Summer scenes in the City:
They've put in a new fun playground for kids underneath the big bridge:
"Hot town, summer in the city
back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
been down, isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head.
But at night, it's a different world,
Go out and find a girl,
Come on, come on and dance all night
despite the heat, it'll be alright.
In the summer, in the city."

the bright windowboxes are out! I love seeing what everybody puts out each spring and summer! Some do the same each year, but most plant brand new combinations each season Headed home: |
and a trip through the country isn't complete without a stop at a little diner!
I had an amazing fish sandwich and fries and Mr. Front Porch had corn bread, green beans, pulled pork, and macaroni and cheese.
Back home I discovered my newest baby morning glories are up!
roses are in bloom in Charleston |
Back home I discovered my newest baby morning glories are up!
and plenty of "pollinators" (above) are blooming profusely , LOL! we shall leave them for a short while, to help the bees and butterflies and dragonflies.
We have a large flock of dragonflies this summer, and we love to watch their swooping antics every evening at dusk. I read that each dragonfly can eat over 100 mosquitoes each day, so we are all for that!
So glad you stopped in to visit me and hope you are having a great week so far.
Remember the big Sturgeon full moon is tonight and also the Perseids Meteor shower---try to get out and take a look if you can.
