June was pretty busy here, so July has kind of snuck up on me.
I was up late last night processing green beans to freeze. LOL

Some of you leave me such sweet and kind comments about me dressed up or dressing up just like a Southern Lady. And I thank you for those!
But what you see are pictures we usually make on Sundays, in our "Sunday Best" or as my Ma-Maw called it "your Sunday go to meeting" outfit. LOL

I'm pretty much in old pants and with either boots on or long tall socks, (or BOTH! lol) with the loose pants tucked IN, to keep from being bitten by the various bugs and/or other critters.
See how sloppy I look? LOL. Big old wrinkled but comfortable shirt for gardening and taking care of chickens/animals, sometimes a dirty chore. That big old blue farm shirt is my favorite everyday shirt.
And of course, we like everything pure cotton as much as we can in the Spring and summer here as it gets so hot and real cotton breathes better.

They have ceased publishing.
I've read this little supermarket check-out magazine since about 2005 or so and enjoyed it alot the first years. It used to be full of stories of the movies and actors back in the old days.
It was about Judy Garland, Shirley Jones, Cary Grant, Ann Margaret, Elvis, Elizabeth Taylor, Sally Field, Audrey Hepburn, Julie Andrews, Gregory Peck, Lucille Ball, Doris Day, Natalie Wood, Marlo Thomas, Barbara Eden, Patricia Neal, Farrah Fawcett, John Wayne, Debbie Reynolds, Burt Reynolds, Barbara Streisand, Tony Curtis etc.
Stories about them, their movies, their lives, their homes and children and hobbies.
In the past two years, it started to feature a large percentage of the movies and celebrities from present day, which I have no interest in reading about, so I was going to let my subscription lapse anyway.

I really enjoyed this little monthly magazine all those years, until the last year they totally changed the format and articles and I just wasn't going to re-new my subscription to this one either. It just changed too much.
I like the option of clipping coupons, tearing out pages of pictures I like, flipping through the articles. Guess I'm "old fashioned" that way.
I remember old magazines like Ladies Home Journal, Redbook, Glamour, McCall's (does anyone remember the Betsy McCall paper dolls each issue?----oh, how I loved those!), Family Circle, and others that are now just a memory.
Does anyone but me subscribe to old fashioned magazines anymore? LOL

I also miss many magazines! I have a large collection of recipes I cut out of my magazines over the years and I always joke that I'll never live long enough to make them all. Stay cool and enjoy the 4th of July!

ReplyDeleteit's REALLY hot here too, but you knew that, humid too!! i have not been getting any magazines. the ones i was receiving i never ordered or paid for. it seems they just kept sending them off of old subscription information. your garden is really producing, that must feel so great!! i planted very little this year. my wildflower garden is really pretty and my hydrangeas too!! i love the pictures of the skies and clouds, looking up...never disappoints!!
ReplyDeleteThat first sunflower is an absolute beauty, and your garden is bursting with so much life right now between those gorgeous 4 o'clocks and that impressive harvest. There is nothing better than fresh garden onions on a cheeseburger, even if processing all those beans and onions keeps you up late. Seeing your everyday gardening outfit with the tucked-in pants is so relatable; you have to stay comfortable and bug-free when working around the animals, and 100% cotton is a lifesaver in this July heat. It is a shame about Closer and your other favorite magazines changing formats or shutting down completely because nothing beats flipping through a physical page with a cool drink after a long day in the dirt.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous, all-inclusive note to find this HOT July morning, with the sounds of the block-away parade still lingering in the air!! All that garden produce---I JUST this minute opened two cans of cut string beans and plunged them down into a cider-vinegar/Splenda/onion/garlic brew in Tupperware, to be nice and tangy at supper time. Little chips and chops of whatever raw vegetables will go in after they marinate, some for taste, some for the pretty of it.
ReplyDeleteBut those Snap-bean nights of my life all the time before we moved here and have such a small garden---those steamy, blanching kitchens for the freezing, and long cooking times for the canned ones---memories I muse on, and MOVE ON. Enough of those.
May I compliment your Garden Gear---you are multi-purposed, and up for anything---all that digging and hoeing and picking and cultivating---and you have the option of fending off pirates and brigands, as well.
I DO also applaud your adherence to pure COTTON---the plant which kept our lights on and the beans in the pantry for decades, through our Mississippi years. I also wear it by CHOICE, for the comfort and ease and durability. (Now 99% of mine is PINK, so there's a lot of convenience there, as well, for the choice is no object.

I miss picking up a magazine and getting lost in it...even the ads! Love your home and seeing you there. Take care and stay out of those pop up showers! Happy 4th!
