This week was Veteran's Day
cant really share any other pictures from it because it's other people's children, but we had a great turn out and lots of costumes and fun was had by all.
The farmers have their winter crops going: kale, turnips, cabbage, broccoli, collard greens, and a few carrots.

This farmer was out tending to his peanut fields, turning them over so they dry out before harvesting. Very fun to watch, but very DUSTY. The air at first smelled like potatoes, then I decided it was just the smell of good Earth. LOL
I keep making pictures of my "last Old Maids".........thinking they are DONE for the year......and they keep surprising me! I came upon this batch the other day.
One of our geraniums is blooming:
We enjoyed a Men's church Lowcountry Boil a couple of weeks ago. Mr. Front Porch brought me home a heaping plate..... It sure WAS GOOD!
And those weird shaped watermelons we found growing, it was finally time to cut them open.
Our ladies sure enjoyed the treat!
this guy visits us every day about supper time:
Thanks for coming to visit me here, and hope you have a great weekend, full of all the things you enjoy! Be safe, and be happy!

DeleteI love those watermelons and now I remember my grandmother that kept chickens giving them for the chickens to peck...they love them. The weather is gorgeous! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteSomehow your posts keep slipping by me. I wasn't on blogger much over the weekend, maybe that's why. I love seeing what's going on around your part of the country. The "Old Maids" are still pretty. Mine are long gone. That watermelon looks like a great treat for the "Ladies". And I love seeing Callie swirling around your legs. I know I have to watch where our kitties are or they will trip me up for sure. I enjoyed everything here. I was missing you today and thinking it had been too long since I'd heard anything from you. Praying all is well there. Things are good here, just been busy with little projects here and there. Take care my dear friend. Love to all of you.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your rendition of FALL---Halloween and Last Turning of the Fields and all the colors and tastes which signal the Closing In. First, Thank you for honoring all our Veterans and service people---our family number of Military Years is now only increasing by one year, with our young AF Grand in another country for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteAnd your colors---all those Last Market bright colors and flavors, and you'd just KNOW the last holdouts in the flowerbed would be a patch of ZEENYERS---Pink at that. Those sturdy stems have a wiry disposition that forbids just snatching one off the stalk, and they're still standing when the Frost hits.
And your picture of the Halloween Moon---Mine for the past two years, the out- my back door view has been a Dali-smeared landscape of light and shadow in golds and brasses and dark shapes of a Witches' Ballroom, with the dancers in shadow and shade.
Happy Thanksgiving to you---looking forward to your adventures.
