Raptors and other Creatures

Vulture

Demonstrating how they look hunting in the wild. The young girl in the gray was an audience volunteer who ran as fast as she could and pulled a "rabbit" on a string for the hawks to catch.
The Center for Birds of Prey always puts on a great educational show each year at SEWE.

I like the flight demonstrations most of all!
Love to watch them swoop!

I can never really get any good pictures of them flying, but this one came and landed on the stand right in front of me!

Mercy!--Look at that wingspan!

One of my favorites, I think this is an Asian Owl?

To hear the barred owl's call, click here:

I love their call!!

(there is a very short but amazing video at the bottom of the link above, shows what we saw) Just scroll to bottom of website and click on it. You can see the birds in action. Check out their eyes and their big wings!

Our streets were packed!

Lots of music today:

Dogs out enjoying their day!

And fun for the kids!

Plenty of shopping:

Pretty collars to buy!
This sweet girl models her new dress!

Plenty of roving photographers out doing what we do:

Inside the Birds of Prey tent:

This sweet doggie got tired and plopped down on her bed!

And what is a festival without yummy food!!??

The delicious scents were driving the dogs crazy, LOL! These two say "Hey!--Follow us!"

not sure this little girl liked what was offered! LOL

These fries were SO SO GOOD!!

I drank two cups!!!

The Orianne Society gave a good presentation on amphibians and reptiles. This was my first year to attend this demonstration. They called for kids to be volunteers out of the audience and they got to carry the turtles, snakes, etc. around for all to see and TO TOUCH, if they desired.

SPOILER ALERT: if you do not like to see pictures of SNAKES, stop scrolling here. LOL  (just to let you know)

Diamondback Rattlesnake

  5. Wow! You sure got a lot of photos here...and look at that kid with the snake. The raptors are amazing but also kind of frightening, too. I hope you have a great weekend- xo Diana
