Fall has arrived

 good-bye summer....

Somehow Fall slipped in!

John Sloane calendar, September
"try to remember the kind of September

When life was slow and oh, so mellow.

Try to remember the kind of September

when grass was green and grain was yellow.

Try to remember the kind of September

when you were a tender and callow fellow.

try to remember, and if you remember, then follow.

Try to remember when life was so tender

that no one wept except the willow.

try to remember when life was so tender

that dreams were kept beside your pillow.

Try to remember when life was so tender

that love was an ember about to billow.

Deep in December

it's nice to remember, although you know the snow will follow

Deep in December it's nice to remember

the fire of September that made us mellow.

Deep in December,

Our hearts should remember.....and follow......"

......1960 Broadway musical

Does anyone remember this old song?

I did a bit of decorating about the house

I haven't even put my summer pocketbooks away......I just slapped some Fall florals into them! LOL

My little Pilgrim People. They are decades old now.

they are standing in front of the old radio I blogged about a couple of posts back

Some cheery little Scarecrows jumped into my seahorses and peacocks that are on this fireplace mantel:

....and another one in this hall:

Swaying in the hot breezes......Spanish Moss and the last of the Crepe Myrtle blossoms:
The remaining ones were ripped off by Hurricane Helene's rampage through South Carolina and many other states the other day
"Mandy", our Mandevilla is blooming again, with her scarlet blooms

and my buttery yellow begonia has once again bloomed:

Pretty butterflies visiting

I hope everyone is safe and that you had no damage from Helene. The devastation in so many states is just awful. We were without power here for a day, and so many are still waiting for theirs to be turned back on. So much damage to people's homes, livelihoods, cars, properties, towns, highways, and lives lost. It was a bad bad storm.

We have alot of yard damage here, but our home is safe, and the big trees that came down narrowly did miss our guineas and chickens coops. We are grateful as it could've been so much worse.

If you were in the path of this dangerous storm, how was it where you live?

It was a Birthday

Happy Fall, Y'all!!
So glad Fall has arrived, but no signs of it here yet except the pretty bright yellow Goldenrod lining all the country ditches. The temperatures are still up in the 90s. Maybe this week's storm will bring rain and cooler temperatures.

Not too long ago, we celebrated Fairy Granddaughter's birthday.
Got her that pretty "dream" sign above for her bedroom. As you know, I do love shopping for her.
I got her these nature folders all about the birds, etc. They fold out really big with lots of information and pictures and are in strong clear plastic.

a pale blue dress:
Below, thats a little pockebook mirror that looks like a laptop, she really liked that.

Got her some fun jewelry, a pearl ring and a blue sparkly ring.

And new charms for her bracelet:

More summer dresses:

Found her quite a few books about the Titanic, one of her current interests.

And of course, there were bright cupcakes! yum
I found this fun candlelabra to hold birthday cake candles! She loved it, said it reminded her of the Titanic!

Hope everyone is having a nice week and your weather is good your way

Soon I hope to decorate the front porch with mums, "punkins" and straw bales.
Do you decorate the outside of your home?

The Old Radio

 White Radio Memories

my Ma-Maw had a white plastic radio. It sat on top of her old fashioned Kelvinator ice box all my life. The radio came on first thing every morning.

There was local news, weather, temperature, and music.

I have a tiny miniature radio sitting next to the white one.

This lively song reminds me of Ma-Maw's radio:

There’s lonely hearts in Arkansas, there’s truckers in Des Moines
all there to keep me company in the early morn.
A world unknown to daytime is forever going on
the airways of the nation between midnight and the dawn.
Late nite radio, take it everywhere I go. My best friend when I’m lonely is my late nite radio.

Well I turn the dial, a little bit past one-o-one point two
in time to catch the news and see who’s shooting who.
Then I hunt around for old songs, they’re so good to hear again.
To think of how it was, imagine how it might have been.

                                           sung by John Denver

I still LOVE IRONING.

My love of ironing goes back to hot hot summer days with my Ma-Maw. I learned to iron by practicing on pillowcases and my Pa-Paw's big white handkerchiefs. The smell of starch filled the porch and ice cold glass bottles of Dr. Pepper were kept near-by, as well as a big glass pitcher of sweet tea. There was no air conditioning and summertime was hot. Fans set in open windows whirred warm air around, giving relief when you were inside the house.

That old radio kept us company, playing Tammy Wynette, Johnny Cash,  Dolly Parton,  Barbara Mandrell, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, Patsy Cline, Kitty Wells, and the happy gospel music of the Carter Family, Maybelle Carter and June Carter Cash.

We would take a break in the old porch swing, heavily and thickly padded with soft old handmade quilts.
We would fan with "church fans" and talk about what was for supper--maybe it was crispy pork chops and Ma-Maw's "tater" cakes, made from last night's left-over mashed "taters", oh...those were SO GOOD.  There would be cornbread slathered in sweet butter and a big bowl of black eye peas too.

Fall is now about to arrive, and we're having some cool breezes.....so welcome! The best "porch sittin" weather.

a few late Summer scenes:

Callie the Barn Cat guarding her Kingdom

Bright beauty berries

my Old Maids, still blooming strong

its a WEED, but I think they're pretty!

and the rose bush burst into full bloom again:

How is it where you live?
There's been so much going on here, I am glad to be back and I'm going to try to catch up with all of you!
