Red and Pretty Blooms

Spotted this festive and bright pot of amaryllis blooms  at a townhouse by the harbor. They sure caught my eye!

I have never grown these, have you?

  5. I am growing some now...I so hoped I'd have pretty blooms by Christmas...I put it in a sunny window and the thing started blooming..got 6 large, gorgeous blooms, bright red and now they are beginning to die...still have about 4 blooms but may be gone before Christmas Eve. Next yr. I'll wait until about the 10th or so of Dec before buying one so I'll be sure to have blooms at Christmas.

  8. Many years ago a co-worker gave each of us girls in the office an amaryllis for Christmas. After forcing it to bloom I brought it home and planted it in a pot. A year or so later it bloomed. It has multiplied and I've divided it numerous times and even so, I have blooms each year! I always get excited when the stalk with the blooms appears (usually just before Easter). Usually, I have four blossoms to a stalk and they are stunning! Mine is solid red.
