New Tabernacle Baptist Church, Charleston

I love looking up at this magnificent old church!

Love the old red bricks!

So much history here......

(below)  So interesting how the greenery insists upon growing right out of the bricks and the building!
One of my favorite pictures!! Looks like even a TREE has decided to grow right out of the bricks......maybe its just a big weed, but to me it looks like a small tree!

I love the old historic windows here so much........enjoy photographing them alot. Aren't they just "story-book like"?

I love the way the bright yellow flowers looked !
I love the bright sunny splash of color and the way they play against the old historic bricks. I love the texture.
Happy Sunday everyone! Thanks for reading!

  3. What a lovely historic church Debbi. That would concern me with those things growing out of the bricks, one would think that as they got bigger they would cause the brick to fall away. I hope not!
    Thanks for sharing with us!

  5. Imagine the work that went into building that church. It's gorgeous. However, allowing that greenery to grow on the bricks can compromise the structure and cause bricks to eventually fall. You may not be able to see the damage..but it's there.
Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing such beautiful and historic buildings.

  6. When was this church built! The detail of the brick behind the flowers makes it look very old, like handmade bricks were used. Love the tree growing way up there!

  13. What a charming, welcoming church (which COULD moonlight as a Fairy-Tale castle, let me tell you.) All that room for any of the various Princes Charming (are they ALL named that?---they were in all MY childhood books, until movie-writers capitalized on the family and named them Florian and Philip and such. But I subscribe to the notion that it's all one big happy CHARMING family, spread out through various kingdoms, each with handsome, valiant sons on the King-track for the Ever After part). And could not any one of them (tall manly boots withstanding) climb right up the greenery of that splendid turret beside the Gothic window? A girl's gotta dream.

Just dropping in to say HI and thanks for the fun comment. Hairdos do what they do in the night, and in the morning, SURPRISE!

Hope you're well and warm, Faraway Friend. I see all the colourful posies on your walks, and think SPRING.

  15. If you hadn't put the title up there, I would have bet it was an Episcopal church - with that red door. What a beautiful church! - and such beautiful photos, Debbi!
