Wash day in the City

It's wash day for this family. Not many folks hang their clothes outside to dry anymore. I wonder why? I just love clotheslines!
I guess there is the argument that they look "messy"...but it's not like you put it right in your front yard.
Clothes dried outside smell so good.
These folks did use their front porch for a clothesline.
Looks like it was laundry day in many places today!
Clothes dry fast in the spring breezes.

  1. I tried a dryer we found once, once of those older stackables, small, took forever but worked. We sold it. So basically for the 43 years we had together and even now on my own, I hang out laundry to dry. I enjoy the whole process, hanging them out to dry and taking them down. Everything smells so good, and fresh line dried bedding is wonderful.

  2. When my mom was 80, she finally relented and let us buy her a dryer. It was a hard-fought battle getting her to give up going in her back yard and hanging up the wash. She got used to the dryer and even admitted that it was a great help in the winter but until her last days, she would still go outside when the weather was nice and hang up her sheets.

  3. I love clothes dried on a clothesline! I had one that fell apart so that is one of my goals....to get another one and find a spot in my yard to put it!

  4. I've seen laundry thrown over a fence out in the 'country' here but not any clotheslines around. I know it's hard to believe with our heat but the humidity keeps things from drying outside. If you throw a towel over a chair outside...it stays damp. Oh, and we just had a good rain out of the storm...nothing bad! Thanks for asking sweet friend. It's sunny now! Enjoy your day! Hugs!

  5. I grew up with clotheslines...such a sweet memory...I do know that the clothes, towels and sheets were stiff and not soft ....maybe my mom didn't have fabric softener..probably hadn't been invented yet in the '40s....

  7. Since moving to the farm 3 years ago that's all I use. I love my clothesline. Cuts down on ironing too.

  8. My mom used a clothesline all her life and I still remember how good the clothes smelled. :) Sadly, it is prohibited now in most neighborhoods. Take care, Maria

  9. I love that scent on clothes dried outside too! The neighborhood association doesn't allow clotheslines here but I do take my pillows out back to air when I wash the bedsheets. Hopefully I can get away with that.

I love your clothesline shots! I can almost smell that clean sun-blessed scent!
