white flowers

Last week we came upon this meadow of beautiful little white flowers. From a distance, they looked like little white stars.

When we got closer, we could see that they have pink on them too, mostly on the undersides.

They're about 6 to 8 inches high at the most, and just lovely. I'm trying to find out what they are.
Atamasco lilies? to me they look like a type of Lily
Are they Coastal azaleas?
swamp azaleas? dwarf azaleas?

 a type of rhododendron?

Looks like they have 5 or 6 petals? and a pinkish band of color on the stalks.

One friend says they are swamp lilies. Another dear friend says they are rain lilies!
maybe swamp lilies and rain lilies are the same thing!? LOL
Anyone recognize this pretty flower?

  1. I've spent some time with my wildflower book today and I am terrible at IDing wildflowers! But oh, how I love them! They do look like tiny lilies. How lucky to get to see them...so many only last for a short time! And the rain brings things out! Hugs!

  2. Atamasco-lily is also known as a rain lily. I'm sure they popped up after that big rain we had last week. It sure has gotten hot and dry again here really fast. 96 degrees when we went out for a ride a little while ago. Too hot for a walk. Love the pictures!!

  3. They look like Resurrection Lilies also know as Surprise Lilies. How wonderful to see a field filled with these flowers.
