The last of summer in the garden

The sweet hummingbirds have left for the Winter, I will miss them alot. Mr. Front Porch took the feeders down yesterday. We leave them up as late as possible for any stragglers who may be stopping in for refreshments on their long migration journey.

some of my new painted bottles:

drying in the sun:

Callie is ALWAYS READY to walk about with us!

These are our four o'clocks! they are not like flowers....they are like huge BUSHES. They tower over my head by late July/August. We get a big kick out of them. We've never seen four o'clocks get this BIG, so we enjoy them.
Almost all of the blooms are gone now.

Some of my very last Old Maids:
I'm sure going to miss these bright blooms throughout the Winter!

Supper that day included one of my favorites, CORN!:

and when we cant have fresh......this Del Monte white corn is really delicious!

Its been rainy and cooler, On evenings like that after "porch sitting" is done I like to read my newest magazines, that  keeps me busy for quite awhile.

It's a new week, hope yours has started out great!

Have you had to get out sweaters yet where you live?
I've been slowly swapping out all my summer clothes for more long sleeves and a few sweaters, and also got out my Fall boots, a welcome change.

Today I got out some light jackets and scarves to wash and freshen up so they're ready when it's cold enough. If a cold snap comes I don't want to be caught without warm clothes that are ready. LOL
(below) a page out of HGTV magazine.....shows the names of the different kinds of "punkins" we are seeing now, I thought that was interesting!

  1. as much as i LOVE autumn, i am sad to see parts of it go. fresh produce, flowers and of course the hummingbirds, will all be missed. here in new jersey, we love our corn on the cob, but it's almost always white corn, it's so sweet!! i have gotten out the long sleeved shirts, i don't really wear sweaters. and the flip-flops, they are a constant. we have gotten out a bit but now we are expecting a lot of rain!!

  2. Hey Debbie, enjoyed all your pictures even though it took a while for some to load. I've never seen 4 o'clocks grow that tall either. I haven't grown any since my girls were small and we lived down in the Sandhills. Wish I had an ear of that corn boiling in the pot for lunch today. It looks delicious!!!
