Good-bye Camellias

Its almost time to say good-bye to this year's beautiful and festive winter bloomers....the camellias.

There are very few left blooming on the bushes.....they are slowly dwindling.......soon all that will remain will be piles of the bright petals laying in drifts on the ground. Like pink, white, scarlet, and peach snow.

This one looks like "Pink Perfection" but it's hot pink and I'm not sure if those are only the pale pink ones? Anyone know?

(above and below) I think these are "Clarrisas". They are fluffy and baby pink.

This one looks like a "Lady Vansittart"...originated in Belgium

(below, made this picture in January) Think these may be "Reverend John Bennetts"

I love these snowy white ones! These pictures were made in the city here
...and these were out on a plantation in the country

And this one was in an ancient old churchyard cemetery.

I love it each year when camellia season arrives and I eagerly look forward to the first fluffy blooms. I adore the white ones and the bright red ones best.
Sorry to see them go, but when they do...spring blossoms will take their place.
And we will welcome a whole new batch of fresh bright new camellias next winter!

  4. Even though I not longer have a camellia bush (I moved), I love looking at the pretty flowers and I do miss my bush. But, like goes on and I am relegated to just observing from afar. Thanks for the beautiful pictures.

  7. beautiful...i saw some a couple of weeks ago when we were in raleigh...camellias remind me of my grandma...she had a lot of them, pinks, and red and when they'd fall off the bush she bring them inside and place them in a little dish of water on the kitchen table :)
