The bells of St. Michael's

On Thanksgiving we toured St. Michaels.

The original organ was made in London. It was installed here in 1768.
(below) I was amazed standing and looking up at the MASSIVE wood double doors and their gleaming shining finish!

The workmanship was just so beautiful...the pews are native cedar. A pew in the middle is where George Washington sat and worshipped in May of 1791. And about 70  years later, General Robert E. Lee also worshipped here.

The beautiful chandelier came from London in 1803. At first it was a candle chandelier, then ran on gas. It later was 'electrified'. I wonder how they got it lit when they used candles? Anyone know?

I love touring the historic old churches and the ancient cemeteries we have here in the city!

  1. I too like touring old churches and went in a couple last summer when in Ireland.
Thanks for dropping by to leave a comment on my blog, wishing you joy in this new year!
I have been a big fan of Canon cameras but our daughter begs to differ as she has both and prefers Nikon. She's a police photographer for crime scenes so must prefer a camera that is a workhorse for what she needs.

  2. You took such great photos. It's hard with the lighting in this beautiful old buildings. And thanks for the sweet comment this morning. This was my second bout and I passed it...not as bad as the first time but bad enough to whine! lol I'm doing great now and went hiking yesterday for the first time in over a week. It felt so good to get out. Enjoy your day sweet friend! Hugs, Diane
