Peaceful Paths

In Florida, we found some quiet and peaceful paths to hike.

With nobody around, we felt like we were on our own deserted tropical island.

Bright Bird

While in Florida recently, I met up with this gorgeous fellow.

His colors are so bright, so colorful, so tropical!

He wandered around, trailing his long long swishy tail along. I wanted him to open it!

C'mon, pretty boy.....show me that gorgeous plumage!

Please?

Pretty please?.....and the more I sweet talked him, the more he prissed and preened and strutted around, and lo and behold!.....the eye catching feathers went up! He seemed to know exactly what I was asking him to do.

Thank you, beautiful peacock, you made my day!

Beautiful Tropical Captiva Island, Florida

Lovely big gates flank entrances to the many magnificent homes on the island

And they are lovely.........but i am more captivated by the small rainbow cottages which are liberally scattered all over!

Bright little banners blowing in the warm beach breezes...one of my favorite pictures from Captiva:
Captiva blossoms:
A very uniquely decorated mailbox post at the end of someone's driveway:
Captiva is a lovely place to spend a day, a week, or a whole vacation!
There are a few fun shops, some fantastic restaurants, and a wonderful small community. There are no big commercial high rises or hotels on the beach. Its quiet. There ARE many quaint little cottages, inns, and small hotels to stay at, many welcoming dogs. It would be a great place to retire to!

Sanibel Island, Florida

We celebrated our anniversary in Florida a few weeks ago:

When you enter the state of Florida, they give you little "shot" glasses (cups) of orange juice. It sure tasted great!

Little birds at the Welcome Center:
Backroads of Florida

more back roads:

Our hotel's lovely pool area:

Shopping Center:
Crossing the bridge to get onto the island

a friendly pelican escorted us across...flew right along with us! It was neat!

The bridge itself is a designated park area, with many areas to pull off, park and enjoy the mini beaches with sand and that beautiful clear Florida water. There were lots of people fishing, riding horses, having picnics, and swimming.

The beautiful and scenic 98 foot tall Sanibel Lighthouse:
It was lit for the first time in 1884. It has a spiral staircase inside but is not open to the public.
It is called a "skeleton" tower type light house.
a close up view of the chimney:

Hot day, cool water!

The beaches were natural, no hotels or high rises. That is the way we like it. Sanibel sits in a east/west direction...making it a world famous haven for many many types and sizes of seashells. People walk along all hunched over...looking for shells....and it's called the "Sanibel Stoop".

I will have more photos to show you next post. Until then, I hope you enjoy these. It was a truly a photographer's paradise and I love to share my photos!
